By knowing stages of pregnancy week by week, you can be in a lot of help, especially if it is your first time pregnancy – because you may not have any experience so that you do not know what exactly to expect.

Stages of Pregnancy Week by Week

In general, there are three stages of pregnancy week by week – the first trimester, the second and the third trimesters. All stages take about 37 to 40 weeks. After an egg is fertilized by sperm, the embryo begins to develop through the stages of pregnancy week by week. From weeks 4 to 8, your baby is an embryo consists of two cell layers from which all of his organs will develop.

During weeks 9 to 12, your baby has developed to about the size of a kidney bean with his little fingers begin to appear. During weeks 13 to 17, those tiny fingers are in place and the baby is size about three inches long.

During weeks 18 to 21, his bone begins to transform into a solid skeleton. During weeks 24 and 25 your baby is developing his eyelids and eyebrows. In weeks 26 to 30 your baby puts on baby fat and his skin starts to smooth out.

In weeks 31 to 34 he can open and close his eyes. While in weeks 35 to 38 he is getting rounder and his lungs have developed well. In weeks 39 to 40, the last weeks, your baby is completely developed and ready to be delivered.
